On the Road With Jess, Alyssa & Kyle

Our Manifesto

Purposefully grandiose and pretentious, so as to truly pay tribute to Kerouac himself:

We are a rabid bunch. We make decisions without thinking, impulsively, and rarely have the gall to follow through with them.

But this trip is different. Because we have wanted to see the vast expanses of our country with our naked eyes for as long as we can remember. Because there is a magnetic force from the west coast that has an anchor in us and continuously pulls us closer.

We decided to do this because, plain and simple, we are bored suburban kids with urban hearts looking for adventure. And what better way to find ourselves and our beloved adventure than traveling crosscountry in a 2 door stick shift car, carting bottles of caffeine and sleeping pills, granola bars, burned CDs, a few changes of clothes, a laptop and a video camera?

We want you to share in the adventure, because we are millennials, and we think this is important. It’s in our blood to turn memories into 1’s and 0’s, put them in words that can be shared with others.

The idea of a road trip is a tired one, cultivated to sell books and memoirs and to have something memorable to tell your grandchildren when your mind begins to go. So we want to attempt to breathe new life into it by making this a Road Trip Millennial Style: we’ll be recording video and posting it to YouTube, writing about our adventures in this blog, Twittering from our trip progress, and even talking politics with people at the Democratic Convention in Denver. We’ll be recording interviews with the people we stay with, as well as any interesting people that we meet. In this way, we’ll be able to have our own personal mementos of the trip, but we’ll also be able to share the (hopefully) interesting parts with anyone who cares to follow us.

Buckle up. We’re going from Philadelphia to California and back in 15 days and hopefully not dying in the process.
